Hi guys welcome to Wednesday’s post 😊…
I’m looking today at the successful usage of information systems in our salon MECCA. In previous posts we detailed what IS are and named a few systems that are used in house in the salon. A POS System first and foremost is very crucial for our success in MECCA as an operations must have. It helps MECCA to keep day-to-day tasks quick and easy. It’s a main credit to MECCA’s success as it runs all the little tasks like transactions and back office systems and records organised and accessible when needed. Any business (retail) without a POS system really is setting itself up for failure. A quote borrowed from a business blog really nailed the essence of a POS. “With POS systems however, they are designed to be user friendly, with a sole purpose of making life easier and business better. They allow staff to focus their attention on the customer, as well as the physical preparation and sale of products, cementing the most important values of retail.” (Yourcash.com 2013) A data – driven DSS (Decision Support Systems) works well in salons. Salons have a huge need for multiple databases to hold their data; inventory data, stock/warehouse data, product and client data. Timely and Timepoint success speaks for themselves they are integral in the salon. Timely reduces no shows, due to constant customer reminders and provides an opportunity to cancel with notice this allows the salon to utilise the free slot again generating more business and wasting no potential business hours. Having the option for customers to choose their own slots frees up time for staff to work on customers as Timely cuts out some of the receptionist’s duties and work load. Timepoint works well as a time keeping software making ease of payroll and keeping track of employee’s hours/late arrivals etc. Excel is one of the most important software applications in any business as well as our salon MECCA. It’s a key ingredient in the background work of the business, its allows our reports and data to be easily organised and filtered into cells and columns that are simply presented and have a visual impact. Excel works well to help the salon track patterns and trends appearing in the datasheets. Overall a key to a business success is to implement and maintain the key information systems that are needed and crucial and tailored to your business needs. Thank you guys!!
